Dump 3 Common Exercise Excuses

Sometimes it seems like we're hard-wired to make excuses; they just flow from our lips so easily. Have you used any of these three common excuses we hear to skip exercising?

  1. I don't have time
  2. There isn't a gym close by
  3. I don't know how or where to start exercising

1. I Don't Have Time

Make exercise a priority. If something is a priority, you will find a way to make it happen. The most successful people I know are also the busiest people I have ever met. They are successful because they have mastered setting and fulfilling priorities.

A recent study at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign suggested that people who thought they were too busy to exercise really did have the time but chose not to make it a priority.

We aren't talking hours a day in a gym here. You can squeeze in a super-charged total body workout in as little as 20 minutes with little or no equipment without leaving your home.

2. There Isn't a Gym Near My House or Work

You can get into the best shape of your life without stepping foot in a gym. Body weight exercises combined with active-rest movements (jumping jacks, high knees, burpees, etc) are a great place to start and can be performed practically anywhere. Add resistance bands or a set of 3 and 5 pound dumbbells to give yourself more exercise options.

3. I Don't Know How to Exercise or Where to Start

There are many ways to learn what exercises will help you. The most important thing is to simply start – do some research online (Fitrme is a great place to start!), flip through a fitness magazine, enroll in a fitness class, or hire a personal trainer. Unless your doctor has specifically told you that you should not exercise at all, start by taking a walk around the block. Additionally, there are many great exercise apps and workout videos that will take you through entire workouts based on your fitness level and goals.

At the end of the day, choosing not to exercise is just that, a choice. Stop with the excuses and invest in yourself! You're worth it!
