Circuit Training Basics

What is Circuit Training?

Circuit training is a mode of fitness training that maximizes the volume of work performed in a short period of time. Moving quickly from one exercise to the next keeps you focused and on-task; eliminating boredom. Circuit training is great for people who are interested in weight loss, muscle gain, body sculpting, and overall strength increases.

How Circuit Training Works

A circuit is a series of strength and/or cardio exercises repeated 3 or more times with little or no rest between sets. A circuit can be performed with minimal equipment; you'll need only a timer (a clock with a second hand will do). To give yourself more exercise options, you'll need a resistance band or a set of 3 to 5 pound dumbbells.

The Benefits of Circuit Training

There are many benefits of Circuit Training. Due to the lack of rest, you'll maintain an elevated heart rate for the entire exercise session – increasing your overall cardiovascular endurance. You'll build muscle mass and strength from the various resistance exercises – increasing your overall metabolism. You'll also burn more calories in less time during the actual workout.

Circuit Training squashes most common excuses people use for not exercising because it takes little time, is action packed, does not need to be done everyday, and it can be personalized for many fitness goals.
